About word counter

Word count is the search people type when a form, a professor, a client, or a platform has a number attached: 500 words, 160 characters, a five-minute slot. Most online counters post the draft to count it. That is a bizarre privacy trade for a task that is arithmetic. imissfiles counts in the browser as you type. Words, characters with spaces, characters without spaces, sentences, paragraphs, lines, estimated reading time at about 230 words per minute, and estimated speaking time at about 140 words per minute. No submit button. No account.

Characters with spaces versus without is the FAQ we get because different platforms mean different things. Twitter/X’s 280 is characters including spaces. Google’s meta description display is roughly 150–160 characters including spaces. SMS 160 is the old GSM chunk, also including spaces. LinkedIn posts start to “see more” around 3,000 characters. The badges under the box turn red when you pass each cap so you do not find out after publishing. They are helpers, not official API limits — platforms change UI truncation without notice.

A 500-word essay is a short page, about two minutes of silent reading and a little under four minutes spoken. A five-minute speech is typically 650–750 words if you do not rush; we use 140 words per minute for speech so the estimate is conservative. Reading time uses 230, a common adult silent-reading figure. Your actual pace will differ. The longest-word and average-word-length stats catch the sentence that is actually a URL, or the jargon that will trip a narrator.

Keyword density lists the ten most frequent words after dropping English stopwords (the, and, of, to…). Toggle stopwords back on if you are debugging a weird repeat. Density is a writing aid, not an SEO spell. Stuffing a stem until it hits 4% is how pages started looking like 2011. Use it to notice you said “actually” nineteen times.

Paste from PDF to Text or Image to Text when the source is a scan or a screenshot. Count, then jump to Find and Replace if a name is wrong throughout, or Case Converter if the heading needs Title Case. Everything stays on this device. Ads fund the page. They are not given the draft, which is the only reason a novelist should use a free counter in a browser at all. If you are writing to a brief (“exactly 300 words”), watch the word stat, not the character badges. If you are writing a title tag, watch 60 characters by eye — the badges here are for body copy and social caps, not SERP titles.

Word Counter FAQ

How many words is a 5 minute speech?
About 700 words at a natural pace. This counter estimates speaking time at 140 words per minute, so 700 words shows as five minutes.
How long is a 500 word essay?
Roughly a double-spaced page, about two minutes of silent reading at 230 words per minute, a little under four minutes spoken.
Does this count characters with or without spaces?
Both. “Characters” includes spaces. “No spaces” strips whitespace. Twitter, meta, SMS, and LinkedIn badges use the with-spaces count.
Is my essay uploaded to count it?
No. The stats update in this tab. Close the page and the text is gone.
What is keyword density for?
It lists the ten most common words after dropping stopwords so you can see repeats. It is not a ranking guarantee.
Why is the meta description badge red?
You passed 160 characters, the usual preview length in search results. Shorten the snippet or accept truncation.
