The delimiter choice matters more than people expect. Comma is correct for most tooling. Semicolon is what you want if the file is going into Excel on a machine with a European locale, where the comma is the decimal separator and a comma-delimited file opens as one column per row. Tab is the safest option when the data itself is full of punctuation. Pick based on the destination rather than habit.

Because recognition and table reconstruction each introduce errors, checking the preview is not optional. Scan a few rows against the original before you build anything on top of the output. Numbers are where errors hurt most and are hardest to spot: a misread digit looks perfectly plausible in a spreadsheet.
